Maddison is an undergraduate at Iowa studying Neuroscience with a minor in Psychology. She plans to attend medical school after undergrad with a focus on either cardio-thoracic or neurosurgery. On her journey, she hopes to bring awareness to implicit bias and racial disparities in healthcare for both physicians and patients.
Whitney is passionate about understanding the neurobiological and physiological mechanisms of depression and anxiety, to provide new diagnostic tools and therapeutics. She views her time in the Hultman Lab as "the perfect opportunity to learn about the cellular and molecular mechanisms of depression vulnerability and susceptibility using single-cell RNA sequencing." It is her hope to continue to study mental health disorders through a multidisciplinary approach as she begins her journey in the Graduate Program in Neuroscience at UIC in Chicago.
Maureen is an undergraduate student at U of Iowa with major focuses in psychology and pre-law. She is excited to learn more about neurological mechanisms underlying complex brain disorders and hopes to apply this knowledge in the legal field in the future.
Micah is a second year graduate student in the Neuroscience PhD program. She attended Baylor University in Waco, TX where she earned her BS in Neuroscience and was part of the McNair Scholars Program. Her past work as an undergraduate includes training in sleep and cognitive neuroscience as well as the regulation of gene expression. Additionally, she is broadly interested in elucidating the mechanisms involved in depression and other complex brain disorders while also advocating for mental health awareness.
Yassine is a biomedical engineer and incoming Ph.D. student for Fall of 2021 in the Interdisciplinary Graduate Program in Neuroscience at the University of Iowa. His goal is to converge bioengineering principles with neuroscience approaches to study the underlying mechanisms of depression and other neurological diseases and disorders to effectively inform the development of precision medicine and treatments.
